How to Set Up an Org Chart

Visualizing your team hierarchy.

Updated this week

One of the most powerful features of OrgaNice is the ability to customize exactly what data is displayed in your organizational structure. You have full control over which employee details are visible, from professional roles and departments to time zones and specific skill sets.

There are four tabs: Profile Fields, Sync w/ Slack, Data Collection, and Hiring.

Profile Fields

In this section, you will see a list of available fields. There are:

  • Manager

  • Job Title

  • Department

  • Teams

  • Photo

  • Country

  • Phone

  • Birthday

  • Start Date

You can enable or disable these fields. Toggle the fields you want to collect. Each employee’s details will then be displayed in their profile sidebar on the Org Chart.

At the bottom, you will find the Add new field button. Clicking it opens a menu where you can create a new data category. Simply enter a name and select the field type: User, Date, Text, or Link. Once all required fields are filled out, click the Create button.

Sync with Slack

OrgaNice reads existing data in Slack profiles and uses it to fill in OrgaNice profiles by default. Once you enable data push to Slack and map OrgaNice fields to Slack fields, the bot will also be able to update profiles in Slack.

For this to work seamlessly, the data source for these fields in your Slack workspace settings should be set to API (this action requires Slack Admin privileges).

You can choose which fields appear directly on the employee cards in the main tree view and which fields are only visible when clicking on a specific user to view their full profile.

Decide whether employees are allowed to edit certain fields themselves via the OrgaNice bot in Slack. For structural data (like Manager or Department), admins typically restrict editing rights to maintain data integrity.

Data Collection

The Data Collection settings allow you to automate the process of gathering information from your team. Instead of manually chasing employees for updates, OrgaNice handles the follow-up for you via Slack.

OrgaNice identifies missing information in employee profiles based on the fields you’ve enabled. If a profile is incomplete, the OrgaNice bot will automatically reach out to that user in Slack to request the missing details.

In the Notifications frequency settings, you can choose how often the bot sends these reminders (daily, every other day, or weekly) until the profile is 100% complete.

Messages

In the Messages settings, you can tailor the bot’s welcome and follow up message to match your company's tone. You can edit or reset to the default message by clicking the three dots on the corresponding field.

Reports

In the Reports settings, enable org chart reports to receive weekly admin updates on overdue profiles. If a user hasn't updated their info after four bot reminders, they will appear on this report so you can manually input their data if necessary.

Hiring

In the Enable referrals settings, turn on this feature to allow your team to assist hiring managers in filling open roles more efficiently.

In the Channel settings, choose a public Slack channel where the bot will post weekly digests of all available positions.
